The microbes living in navels are part of their hosts’ microbiome — the community of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi that live on and in all animals and plants. Some types of microbes can cause illness. Many can help protect the body from other, nasty bacteria. Each volunteer carries a variety of bacterial species in his or her belly button. Below is information on the number of bacteria found for each species in the navel. If Improbable Beef is looking for people who carry a large number of a certain bacterial species, each volunteer should be able to quickly use the dashboard to figure out whether they are eligible to sell their bacteria to the Improbable Beef.
